The Voice They Tried to Silence!
The Voice They Tried to Silence
By Angie Lynn | hustletoheal.com
“They said, ‘What’s that sound?’
My voice replied… ‘Unsure. Insecure.’”
Welcome to Hustle to Heal, a space for women healing out loud. This story is more than testimony—it’s a breaking point, a breakthrough, and a bold return to self. If you’ve ever questioned the value of your voice… this is for you.
How the World Silenced Me with a Sentence
A man once told me, “Your voice doesn’t match your face.”
Another said, “You sound like an old woman.” Then came, “Why’s your voice so shaky?”
These weren’t harmless remarks. They were darts—subtle, but sharp. And slowly, they stitched a lie into my soul: that my voice wasn’t welcome. That my sound was strange. That I wasn’t made to speak.
What the Data Says About Women Feeling Silenced
- 📊 A 2023 survey from LeanIn.org found that 60% of women have held back from sharing ideas in meetings out of fear of being dismissed or misunderstood.
- 📊 According to the American Psychological Association, 1 in 3 women feel uncomfortable using their voices in public spaces due to early-life criticism.
- 📊 In a 2021 study, 45% of women recalled being taught that being “too loud” was unladylike—a belief that shaped their confidence well into adulthood.
Silencing is systemic. It’s generational. And it’s spiritual.
Eczema, Shame, and an Attempt to Mute Me Again
Just weeks before I sat down to record this video, something else happened—something unexpected.
I developed eczema on my lips. They became dry, cracked, and split at the corners. It hurt to smile. It hurt to speak. And it absolutely wrecked my confidence.
The old me would’ve canceled everything. Would’ve hidden again. Would’ve chosen silence.
But not this time.
I realized the enemy doesn’t always scream at you—sometimes, he just throws distractions. Triggers. Insecurities. Health issues. Shame.
But I showed up anyway.
Why My Voice Still Matters—Even When It Shakes
That “shaky” voice they mocked? It’s full of power. It’s been through pain. And it still breaks chains.
In Proverbs 18:21 it says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” That means your voice is a *creative force*—whether used or muted.
And in Isaiah 55:11, God says, “So is My word that goes out from My mouth: It will not return to Me empty…”
What if the very sound you’ve been ashamed of is the sound the world needs to hear?

Affirmation of the Day
“I speak with boldness, not because I’m perfect, but because I’m purposed. My voice is not a flaw—it’s a weapon, a gift, and a reflection of God’s design.”
A Prayer for the Silenced
God,
Thank You for giving me a voice.
Forgive me for shrinking when I was meant to shine.
Heal the wounds from every careless word spoken over me.
Help me rise, even when I feel unworthy.
I will not be silenced again.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Thoughts: You Still Have Time to Speak
You are not too late. You are not too broken. You are not too behind. You are right on time.
So the next time they ask—
“What’s that sound?”
Let your voice rise and say:
Healed. Holy. Whole.
